Record-breaking German Biotech Days in Berlin
The 9th edition of the German Biotech Days (Deutsche Biotechnologietage) was a full success in many ways. A record number of over 1000 attendees from business, sciences, funding institutions, public administration and government followed the invitation of BIO Deutschland to the bcc in Berlin.
The program has always been well composed at the German Biotech Days and several politicians have used the platform for their political agenda. But never before has a federal politician shown as much commitment for biotechnology like Peter Altmaier, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, did in his speech. In a jam-packed room full of biotech representatives he announced that Germany needs a “Biotech Agenda”, just like it has a “Digital Agenda”, which has to be pushed by several federal ministries. He also announced that his ministry is willing to take over the coordinative part and invited biotech industry representatives to a workshop to actively contribute to the agenda, which is momentarily called “From Biotech to Innovation”. Needless to mention that he gained great approval for his enthusiastic speech.
Another keynote speech that stroke a chord among the attendees was given by Professor Dr. Hannelore Daniel, from the Technical University of Munich. In a rhetorically brilliant way she shone a light on the ambivalent attitude from consumers towards biotechnology and nutrition. Her talk was spiked with many examples that proved how poor the general knowledge often is and to what consumer behavior it leads. Being funny on the one hand, it showed impressively how much objective clarification on biotechnology still is needed to gain better acceptance in public.
Being one of 42 exhibitors MLM could well observe the lasting effect of this keynote speech, which triggered big discussions among the visitors in the networking break. The exhibition was well frequented and many visitors used the opportunity to get first hand information about MLM’s service portfolio.
After two very intensive and interesting days a big hand goes to the organizers at BIO Deutschland.
Great speakers, an outstanding moderation by Dr. Viola Bronsema, Secretary General of BIO Deutschland, perfect organization, interesting attendees and even the weather showed his best side!
Couldn’t have done any better.
Thank you for another great event!
