MLM impressed by China Medical City in Taizhou
From September 12th – 16th Prof. Stephan Wnendt and Dr. Katja Neuer joined the delegation from the Cluster for Biotechnology North Rhine-Westphalia, BIO.NRW, to Taizhou. The city of Taizhou is located in the Jiangsu region, which is one of the two partner regions of the state of NRW and the delegation trip was part of the project “Internationalisierung von Spitzenclustern”, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. For this first trip three NRW-based companies (MLM Medical Labs GmbH , Mönchengladbach; attyloid, Jülich and Xell AG, Bielefeld) joined Dr. Christoph Block, Head of BIO.NRW, for the trip to the Chinese partner organization “China Medical City” (CMC) in Taizhou.
Since it was the first time for all three companies visiting China this exploratory journey was aimed to evaluate chances in market development in the fields of pharmaceutical, diagnostic and medicinal biotechnology and get in contact with potential collaboration partners and clients.
Prior to the CMC Medical Expo the 5-headed delegation had the chance to visit the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) and get firsthand information about regulatory requirements and official procedures for clinical trials in China.
During an impressive tour through the CMC not only the different lab types and offices were shown to the delegation, but also analytical devices and full lab services, that are available when starting activities in China.
Especially impressive was the visit and presentation of the Vaccine Engineering Center, where numerous German pharma companies are already present.
The 3-day China International Medical Expo counted 2000 visitors and over 200 exhibitors. The German booth from NRW with the three delegate companies and the cluster drew the attention of a lot of visitors. Many contacts to potential collaboration partners, clients and suppliers were made. In addition to the exhibition the NRW companies and the “Spitzencluster” had the chance to give a presentation in front of Chinese partners. The whole program was accompanied by an interpreter and students, who supported the German companies communicating with Chinese visitors and lots of useful information about Chinese culture.
During the MEDICA in November in Düsseldorf a Chinese delegation will come for a visit to Germany, where the first contacts can be intensified. MLM will be happy to host the CMC-BIO.NRW forum.
We would like to thank the two partner organizations BIO.NRW and China Medical City represented by Dr. Christoph Block and Jessica Wong as the main organizers for their excellent planning and conduction. You made our first step into China easy, successful and very enjoyable.
Also a big thank you to our interpreter Yinying and the students from CMC!
We are looking forward to intensify our first Chinese impressions and contacts!
